Breathe in. Hold it. Now breath out. This is a tough time for everyone, you’re not alone. Make this your mantra when things get rough. It always helps to know you’re not in this alone. The laughter of your friends in the staff room, the warmth of your dining table surrounded by family, the vitality of a crowded farmer’s market, these are the images that keep me going through this long difficult time. This and breathing deeply.
I cannot give enough praise to all of you school staff who have been SOOO strong in your unrelenting support for the children in your care over the last 9 months. You’ve gone from your regular classroom, to an on-line environment, to a summer of staying hunkered down. At the start of the new year, you were asked to change much of what you know to be best practice in order to keep society safe and the kids sane. You’ve recreated your role and the way you support children in their learning. Right when things were starting to click – you went right back on-line. At Christmas, a time for renewal and reenergizing, you were asked not to see family, not to see friends, not to go away. You did that too. Again, I cannot say enough about all that you’ve given.
Just a friendly reminder, TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. make sure you find time to eat well, get moving, have some laughs. It’s simple to get pulled down in the anger of these times, especially when you’re trying to regulate the kids in your care. Make time for you. Find strategies for keeping well. You deserve it and the kids need you healthy.
I have no more to say than that. You are awe inspiring. You know your kids – and you know they need the normalcy of school, of their school staff, of their friends. So, because you’re rock stars – you supported it and made it work. There isn’t a day that goes by that I do not thank God for the dedication and commitment of school staffs.
God bless and thank you – you truly are a blessing!
